Our Animation Specialist on his Most Recent Project
Animation is a tough gig. The final product might look sleek and colourful, but the process is difficult and takes a huge amount of skill to accomplish.
Our animation specialist Rob Jones recently completed an animation for UniQore as part of our ongoing projects with the company.
We decided to pick his brain on his role in the project:
Could you explain what the brief was for this animation?
The UniQore animation was to be an overview explanation on what UniQore is, its services, and how it can help business owners with the day-to-day running of their business.
What were your initial thoughts on creating this animation?
My initial thoughts looking at this brief were mainly that I couldn’t wait to get started. It was to be a two minute, fully animated video, meaning there would be lots of opportunity to experiment and develop my animation techniques.
What challenges did you face during the animation process and how did you address these?
One challenge that I faced was animating the three main characters. I needed to be able to move and bend their arms and legs in a cartoonish, but convincing way. I turned to a software called RubberHose, which allowed me to join two points with a tube, that would rotate, scale and bend when the points were manipulated.
How does this animation benefit the client?
The client now has a video that they can send to potential clients, or display on their website, that can easily and clearly explain exactly what UniQore is and why a business would need it. They have also gained a new art style and tone of voice that will be carried through to future animations and illustrations.
