Event Videography in Glasgow: Capturing the Spice Awards 2026 From Kitchen to Gala
When it comes to event videography, some events give you plenty to film.
The Spice Awards 2026 gave us an entire day.
Our videographer Cara was on location capturing everything from the intensity of the morning’s live cook-offs through to the celebrations, speeches and award presentations at the Gala Final later that evening.
Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central on 7 September 2026, the eighth annual Spice Awards celebrated businesses and individuals from across Scotland’s Asian and Indian food sector. spiceawards.co.uk
For us, it was also a brilliant example of what strong event videography can achieve: capturing not just what happened, but the atmosphere, personalities and stories that made the day memorable.
Starting With the Live Cook-Offs
Before the formalwear, trophies and celebrations came the serious business.
On the morning of the Gala Final, finalists went head-to-head in the Spice Awards live cook-offs.
Competitors in categories including Best Chef in Scotland and Scotland’s Best Curry were given limited time to prepare their dishes in front of the judging panel, before finding out later that evening who had taken the title.
The wider Spice Awards judging process combines public support with independent judging, with finalists depending on their category potentially taking part in venue visits, submitting supporting documentation or competing live. spiceawards.co.uk
For a videographer, the live competition provides everything you want from event content.
Pressure.
Movement.
Concentration.
Colour.
Reaction.
And, of course, some seriously good-looking food.
Rather than simply documenting chefs standing behind a workstation, the aim was to capture the intensity of the competition and give viewers a sense of what it actually felt like to be there.
From the Kitchen to the Gala Final
A few hours later, the atmosphere was completely different.
The Spice Awards Gala Final brought finalists, guests and businesses together for the evening celebration, with winners announced across a wide range of categories.
The 2026 awards recognised everything from Best Chef in Scotland and Scotland’s Best Curry through to Best Team, Best Dining Experience, Best Family-Owned Restaurant, Best Social Media & Marketing and Spice Personality of the Year. spiceawards.co.uk
Cara was there again to capture the evening.
This time the focus shifted from the intensity of competition to arrivals, conversations, celebrations, presentations and the reactions of the winners.
By filming both parts of the day, we were able to tell a much more complete story.
The finished content wasn’t simply an awards-night highlight video.
It showed the journey from competition to celebration.
Why Event Videography Is About More Than Recording What Happened
There’s a big difference between recording an event and creating content from an event.
Good event videography should allow someone who wasn’t there to understand what the experience felt like.
That means capturing more than the stage.
It means looking for:
- Behind-the-scenes moments
- Reactions
- Details
- People interacting
- Atmosphere
- Venue shots
- Speakers and presentations
- Movement and energy
- The moments people naturally remember afterwards
Those smaller details are often what make the final video feel authentic.
For the Spice Awards, the contrast between the morning and evening made that particularly effective.
The chef concentrating over a dish in the morning could be standing on stage holding an award several hours later.
That’s a story.
One Day of Event Videography, Months of Content
Another advantage of professionally filming an event is the amount of marketing material that can come from a single day.
The obvious output might be one main highlights video.
But the footage can also be developed into:
- Short social media edits
- Individual category clips
- Sponsor content
- Behind-the-scenes videos
- Promotional material for the following year’s event
- Website content
- Paid social advertising
- Speaker or winner clips
- Reels and vertical video
That means the value of the shoot doesn’t disappear when the event finishes.
For annual events in particular, the previous year’s footage can become some of the strongest promotional material available when registrations, sponsorships or ticket sales open again.
Video Gives Future Attendees a Reason to Care
You can describe an event as exciting.
You can say the room was busy.
You can explain that people had a great night.
Video allows people to see it.
For event organisers, that matters.
Future guests can see the scale of the occasion.
Potential sponsors can understand the visibility available.
Entrants can see what being involved actually looks like.
And previous attendees get something they want to share.
That’s why we see event videography as part of the marketing strategy rather than simply documentation.
Capturing the Personality of an Event
Every event should look and feel different on camera.
A corporate conference shouldn’t feel like a food awards ceremony.
A gala dinner shouldn’t feel like a product launch.
The Spice Awards has plenty of personality built into it: competition, food, colour, celebration and a room full of people genuinely invested in the outcome.
Our job is to capture that rather than force the event into a generic video template.
The best event films should feel specific to the organisation behind them.
A Full Day, Two Very Different Stories
From the morning’s live cook-offs to the Gala Final that evening, the Spice Awards was exactly the type of project that demonstrates why event videography works so well.
One part was about skill and competition.
The other was about recognition and celebration.
Together, they tell the full story.
And for Cara, it meant a very full memory card.
